Committee on Safe Motherhood and Newborn Health
The FIGO Committee on Safe motherhood & Newborn Health is one of a number of dedicated Committees established to implement the priorities of FIGO.
Aims & Ambitions of The FIGO Committee for Safe Motherhood and Newborn Health
The aims of the Committee are as follows:
- To act as a focal point for all FIGO activities dedicated to safe motherhood and newborn health
- To consider the possible continuation or expansion of the FIGO Saving Mothers & Newborns Initiative aimed at reducing unacceptably high rates of maternal mortality and morbidity in developing countries, with a view to presenting firm proposals to the Officers and Executive Board. Any proposal must include a strategy for raising funds to support the proposed continuation or expansion
- To monitor the activities being undertaken for the prevention and treatment of Post-Partum Haemorrhage both independently and in consultation with ICM and other organisations.·
- To identify other areas where FIGO might take an active role in safe motherhood activities with a view to making recommendations to the Executive Board. All such proposals must include a strategy for raising funds to support the proposed activity
- To act as a liaison point on behalf of FIGO with other organisations – including the Partnership for Safe Motherhood & Child Health – concerned with safe motherhood issues, and to represent FIGO at relevant and worthwhile meetings
