FIGO/IGCS Educational Workshops
The FIGO/IGCS workshops were designed to provide expertise for limited projects in Gynecologic Oncology to a developing country/region/hospital with an ultimate goal of establishing new locally run programs to enhance women’s health in the hosting country/region/hospital. They also served as a vehicle for the exchange of intellectual and academic materials between expert and host. Outcomes had to be measured.
Qualifications
The applicants had to be:
- Explain what the need is to a particular situation related to gynecologic cancer education, prevention, treatment, or diagnosis.
- Specify what type of expertise is needed (Surgical, medical, public health, etc…)
- Explain what long term accomplishments will be expected as a result of the workshop (i.e what can be implemented practically after the workshop)
- Explain the number of women that would be positively affected by such a workshop
- Explain which health care worker would benefit from the workshop
- Describe the cultural environment and how women’s care is perceived by the local population
- Describe how the impact of the workshop will be measured
- Describe their specific background and experience in Gynecologic Oncology
- Be able to communicate effectively with the expert team.
Duration and sponsorship
The duration of the workshop was for 1 to 2 weeks and the application had to have the full support of the applicant’s institution and/or Health Department.
FIGO/IGCS provided the expert faculty for these workshops. The host had to obtain clearance for all medical license and medical protection insurance that the expert faculty would require. Travel costs were paid by the sponsoring organization, but local accommodation was arranged by the host.
The host received a free membership to the IGCS for 5 years
Applications were reviewed for scientific validity by a sub-committee of the FIGO/IGCS Education Committee
