Lifestyle changes 'can limit cancer risks'
People can reduce their risk of suffering from cancer by making a number of simple lifestyle changes, it has been suggested.
According to the World Cancer Research Fund (WCRF), many thousands of cases could be prevented if health guidance is followed.
The organisation urges people to avoid becoming over or underweight, stressing the potential benefits of daily exercise.
In addition, WCRF says that by avoiding sugary drinks, eating more vegetables, fruits and wholegrains, and limiting alcohol consumption, people can live healthier lives.
Eating large amounts of red and processed meats, and salty foods should also be avoided, it adds, as should cigarettes.
Professor Martin Wiseman, medical and scientific adviser for WCRF, said many people still think of cancer as "a question of fate", but claimed that people can "significantly reduce their risk" by eating healthily, being physically active and maintaining a healthy weight.
He commented: "If everyone followed our recommendations, it would mean that tens of thousands of cases in the UK would be prevented every year."
Last month, a spokesperson for the UK Patients Association claimed that people experiencing cancer symptoms must act quickly to consult a medical professional.
