UK woman raises awareness of ectopic pregnancy through skydive
A woman from Fordham, UK, has skydived to help raise awareness about ectopic pregnancy, a potentially life-threatening condition.
Helen Tedman lost her baby to ectopic pregnancy earlier this year. The condition occurs when a fertilised egg is implanted outside of the womb.
By jumping from a plane at a sponsored event near Lowestoft, Ms Tedman raised around £550 for the Ectopic Pregancy Trust.
Ms Tedman turned to the trust when she had concerns about her future fertility status.
"The Ectopic Pregnancy Trust helped me, through the forums and information on the Web site, and made me realise that it is actually quite common, and that all who experience it feel the same way," she told the Ely Standard.
According to the trust's site, the condition occurs in around one in every 80 pregnancies and kills around five women a year in the UK.
This month, researchers at Harvard University, US, discovered that pregnant women with psoriasis have a significantly increased risk of preterm birth, hypertension, ectopic pregnancy and other problems, ABC News reported.
