Mary Ann Lumsden joined FIGO as Chief Executive from the University of Glasgow, where she was Clinical Lead for Reproductive and Maternal Medicine and also, a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist.

She is Past Senior Vice President for Strategy at the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists in London.

Mary Anne has over 25 years’ experience as a senior Clinical Academic in Glasgow where her current research interests include menopause and menstrual disorders as well as chronic disease prevention in women in mid-life. She has published extensively on these topics in peer-reviewed journals.  Mary Ann also has considerable experience of developing Guidelines. She was Chair of the Guidelines Development Group for the National Institute of Health and Care Excellence (NICE) Guideline ‘Menopause: Investigation and Management’.

Her success in this field was recognised in 2017 when she was awarded an OBE (Officer of the Order of the British Empire) for Services to Women’s Health.

Mary Ann was International lead for the College of Medical, Veterinary and Life Sciences at the University of Glasgow and has extensive experience of collaborative projects overseas particularly in South Asia which she visits frequently. She is currently Immediate Past President of the International Menopause Society (2016-2018) and was Vice Chair of the Women’s Health Expert Advisory Group to the Medicine and Hormones Regulatory Authority (2012-2017).
