IJGO Call for papers: Vaccinations and Women’s Reproductive Health

Immunisation is a resounding achievement with regard to global health. It has been proven historically that vaccines can prevent outbreaks of disease and save lives. Arguably, there has been no greater public health achievement over the past 100 years. However, recognizing vaccine complacency/apathy and the fact that vaccines are currently being targeted by increasingly antagonistic public campaigns, the aim of this special issue is to help increase awareness of the necessity and safety of vaccines—especially for women and their newborn infants.

The International Journal of Gynecology and Obstetrics (IJGO) invites original research and reviews that focus on the impact of vaccinations on women’s health, including vaccination during pregnancy and lactation, and the potential benefits to the neonate. We will also consider shorter commentary pieces, including brief communications, case reports, and editorials, and we particularly welcome papers relating to vaccination in LMICs.

Potential topics include (but are not limited to):

  • The process of, and the regulations associated with, vaccine development (CDC, NIH, FDA, EMA, ICMRA, WHO, etc)
  • Global vaccine coverage and addressing barriers to access
  • COVID-19 vaccination in pregnancy/postpartum—mechanisms, placental transfer, maternal immune response in pregnancy to COVID-19 vaccines
  • Dispelling concerns/dis- & misinformation around vaccines
  • HPV vaccinations: should we consider HPV vaccination in pregnancy?
  • Vaccines in development for the prevention/treatment of diseases such as respiratory syncytial virus, herpes simplex virus, gonorrhea, cytomegalovirus , etc.
  • Feasibility and importance for vaccinating 0–6-month-old neonates, and the associated challenges of immunisation for newborns
  • Vaccination programmes/drives and their outcomes in varied resource settings
  • Pregnancy- and postpartum-specific considerations regarding immunization
  • Maternal immunisation for maternal and fetal/neonatal benefit.

Please submit via the IJGO submission site and mention that you are submitting as part of the Vaccinations special issue in your cover letter.

The deadline for submissions is May 16, 2022.
