Summary of Professional Experience

Dr. Anne-Beatrice Kihara is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Nairobi, College of Health Sciences, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology where she has worked for the past 15 years. Has a Fellowship from East Central Southern African College of Obstetrics and Gynecologists obtained in 2019 and completed Masters in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Nairobi in the year 1999. Has practiced as a Specialist Obstetrician Gynecologist in private and public hospitals in Nairobi, Kenya. Professionally, my career spans over 20 years providing clinical care; engaged in research; policy formulation; grant writing; strategic planning; project management; guideline development and advocacy. Been an external examiner of the postgraduate and undergraduate students at Moi University, College of Health Sciences, Eldoret, Kenya. Activities include moderation of final year examinations, conduct of clinical examinations, review and grading of student thesis and submission of reports on their academic performance since 2019. Additionally, a member of the following committees since 2017: FIGO-Pregnancy and non-communicable disease and have publications, conduct capacity building, and made presentations at Congresses. At the University of Nairobi engaged in curriculum development; examinations; disciplinary, welfare and mentorship committees. She has over 70 peer reviewed publications; 37 abstracts; 7 editorials publications; 2 referred books; 1 referred book chapter and proceedings; 6 manuals and training packages and 7 guidelines and standard operating procedures and 38 position and discussion papers shared Internationally, regionally and locally in countries namely: Cameroon, Israel, Italy, Nigeria, Norway, Rwanda, South Africa, Switzerland, Tanzania, UK, Uganda and United Arab Emirates.

Current President of African Federation of Obstetricians and Gynecologist since 2020

Past President of the Kenya Obstetrical and Gynecological Society between 2013 to 2017 

In Kenya provide technical assistance to the presidential round-table and Beyond Zero Initiative since 2013 in maternal, neonatal and adolescent health.

In Kenya engaged with H6 partners –UNFPA, WB, USAID, UNICEF, WHO, UNWOMEN and MOH advancing learning hubs, strategies, guidelines and quality of health care in SRMNCAH. 

Contributed in the Kenyan Constitution in matters related to SRHR such as the Sexual Offences Act; The Health and Reproductive Bill; reduction of maternal mortality from unsafe abortion; gender policy and strategies to reduce harmful cultural practices such as GBV, FGM, teenage pregnancy and Assisted Reproductive Technology from 2010 to date.

Worked in a collaborative project between the Kenya Obstetrical and Gynaecological Society and The African Centre for Global Health and Social Transformationusing evidence based advocacy that engaged and mobilized civil society to ensure social accountability from duty bearers and their  responsive to needs and demand for quality SRMNCAH services by  citizenry since 2018. 

Have worked with private equity in maternal and non -communicable disease between 2017-2018. 

Fostered and strengthened strategic partnerships and networks that engage, accelerate, align and account in MNH with bodies such as: Kenya Midwifery Association; Rotary clubs in Kenya, civil society groups and Inter-sector consultative collaboration.
