Approved Nebraska abortion law 'may not come into effect'

A groundbreaking abortion law that was recently approved in Nebraska in the US may not actually come into effect any time soon, legal experts have said.

The law, which will ban abortions from taking place at and after 20 weeks, is meant to be implemented this October.

Even opponents to abortion believe that someone will challenge the new law, resulting in a court injunction, which will stop the law from taking effect this year.

The new abortion restrictions are based on the belief that foetuses feel pain, however, the lower courts in Nebraska have no precedent to support this theory.

Recently it was reported that four health trusts in England in the UK have applied for licences which would allow early abortions to be carried out in GP surgeries.

GP newspaper found that two clinics have already been set up in England and 11 are actively seeking licences to conduct the procedure, which uses tablets to induce a miscarriage.
