Dear Colleagues and Friends
I am pleased to tell you of the exciting things that have been happening in FIGO in recent months - there have been many!
In my last update, I mentioned the refurbishments that took place late last year to enable FIGO House to be better placed to accommodate the many Committee and Working Group meetings that are organised throughout the year. In addition, the new layout has enabled a better use of space to accommodate more staff as FIGO expands. Everyone is welcome to visit FIGO House - please feel very welcome if you are in London.
Recent staff appointments made early this year will make FIGO a much stronger organisation. These changes include establishing a new communications, advocacy and publications department, with a new Director leading this work. With our new logo and a new strapline - ‘The Global Voice for Women’s Health’ - we will be more outspoken and proactively engage in topics that represent our profession, showing our leadership as a global organisation. These topics will include the high increase in C-sections and our updated cancer staging.
In addition, a new Membership Services Manager has been appointed to better manage the relationship with FIGO’s Member and Regional Societies; FIGO can only be successful if they are thriving. Helping our Members build capacity is a key priority for us. Finally, FIGO has a new Partnerships Manager to help us raise more funds.
Every day, staff and I work very closely with the Officers and our numerous Committee and Working Groups with a high degree of mutual respect and integrity that enables excellent work to be achieved. One of the Committees is the FIGO World Congress Organising Committee. As many will be aware, the Congress takes place 14-19 October 2018. You are all cordially invited, and we do hope to see many of you in the beautiful and exciting city of Rio de Janeiro.
Next week, FIGO will make its voice heard at the World Health Assembly in Geneva. You will read about this news in the next update!
