Statement to WHO 150th Executive Board: FIGO on STIs
Members of FIGO’s Board of Trustees and Executive Team attended WHO’s virtual 150th Executive Board in early 2022 to feed into discussions and provide the global voice for women’s health. FIGO submitted the following verbal statement on sexually transmitted diseases.
FIGO’s statement
The International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics welcomes the WHO’s strategies on HIV, viral hepatitis and STIs.
Sexual health is the right of every person, wherever they are in the world.
As the global voice for women’s health, FIGO knows that optimum sexual health has a positive impact on many aspects of life, including reproductive health and wellbeing.
Despite efforts, STIs remain a global public health challenge. Early diagnosis is essential to ensure accurate and timely treatment.
FIGO calls on Member States to commit to and invest in programmes of prevention – including vaccination – screening and treatment.
FIGO is committed to supporting WHO, Member States and partners to improve sexual health and wellbeing. Sexual health is fundamental to women’s health and happiness, and it has a positive impact on our societies and countries.
