Cancer of the reproductive system is one of the most common causes of death in women around the world.
The most common gynecological cancers affect the cervix, the ovaries and fallopian tubes, and the lining of the uterus (known as endometrial cancer). Ovarian and endometrial cancers are hard to detect, and are often diagnosed at a late stage when treatment is difficult.
FIGO provides global leadership for cancer staging, and the incorporation of rapidly growing research into care documents that can be tailored to every resource setting.
Our Global Declaration on Cervical Cancer Elimination, signed in front of 11,000 OBGYNs from around the world in October 2018, aligns FIGO’s expertise and worldwide network to the call for action from WHO. We commit to scaling up global access to life-saving screening and treatment for this largely preventable and treatable disease.
