Introducing the Workshop

This workshop aims to identify specific barriers to the implementation of current WHO guidelines on vaccination programmes for women, including the WHO 2020 Global Strategy for the Elimination of Cervical Cancer. Gaps in implementation across vaccination strategies currently include social, political, economic, and infrastructural factors, from cost of vaccine purchase, to vaccine hesitancy among target populations.

FIGO is inviting individuals from across the globe are invited to share diverse experiences of in-country implementation, of both HPV vaccine and other immunisation programmes for women, and to participate in an interactive discussion with the ultimate target of developing a set of best practice strategies for sustainable vaccination programme implementation (applicable to diverse settings) intended for global distribution.

Who can take part?

FIGO is pleased to be joined by a range of expert speakers in the field of immunisation and implementation science. Individuals who are interested in sustainable implementation of vaccination strategies for women, HPV vaccine, cervical cancer prevention, and vaccination during pregnancy are invited to register for the workshop.

We will also be joined by a range of FIGO Committee Members, National Society representatives, Pilot Project representatives, and other healthcare professionals, alongside representatives from projects, charities, political actors, and other organisations involved in the implementation science of vaccination strategies for women, as well as the global elimination of cervical cancer.

Programme at a glance

The workshop will begin with a series of talks on vaccination in women’s health including: vaccinations throughout the life cycle; specific issues for research; immunology; the role of vaccination in WHO guidelines (WHO 2020 Global Strategy for the Elimination of Cervical Cancer); management of anti-vaccine misinformation; ethical issues relating to vaccination access; and immunisation programme implementation in low- and middle-income countries. Speakers with expertise in sustainable implementation of HPV vaccination and vaccination programmes during pregnancy will present case studies of successes and challenges, scaling up, and developments in research.

In-person delegates will have the option to attend smaller group discussions tasked with developing a set of best practice frameworks for vaccination programme implementation applicable to diverse settings relating to one of the focus topics:

  1. HPV vaccination and cervical cancer prevention
  2. Vaccination during pregnancy
