The FIGO Fertility Passport
The FIGO Fertility Passport is a practical tool for patients and their healthcare providers designed to improve continuity of care and reduce delays during infertility treatment. It was developed by members of the FIGO Committee on Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility (FIGO REI).
What is the FIGO Fertility Passport?
The FIGO Fertility Passport is a document for women and couples undergoing fertility investigations and treatments. Created for health professionals to share early in the infertility journey, it is completed throughout a patient’s care.
It records key details such as medical and surgical history, menstrual and pregnancy history, semen parameters, diagnostic tests and prior fertility treatments. By centralising this information, the passport helps avoid repeated investigations, reduces delays and eases financial and emotional burdens.
Since infertility care often spans multiple providers, clinics and even countries, transferring complete medical histories can be difficult. The FIGO Fertility Passport provides a structured summary of each patient’s journey, supporting:
- clear communication between patients and providers,
- continuity of care across clinics and borders,
- more efficient diagnosis and treatment planning,
- reduced duplication of tests and costs.
Using the FIGO Fertility Passport
The passport is a free, downloadable resource. It can be used for up to two patients, ensuring both partners’ histories and treatments are documented.
Healthcare providers are encouraged to share the passport with patients at the start of infertility care. It should be updated regularly to reflect completed investigations, diagnoses and treatment outcomes.
By standardising documentation, the FIGO Fertility Passport aims to support women and couples in navigating fertility treatments with greater confidence and efficiency, while also helping providers deliver more coordinated, patient-centered care.
