FIGO welcomes CSW69 Political Declaration, calls on members to hold governments to promises

CSW69 marks the 30th anniversary of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, at which governments committed to uphold the rights and freedoms of every woman and girl.

Responding to the Political Declaration, FIGO’s CEO Frances Longley, said,

“FIGO welcomes the Political Declaration to respect, protect and champion the rights of women and girls. We know that this will only be achieved when women and girls receive high-quality health care, including comprehensive sexual and reproductive care. With just five years left to achieve the SDGs, it is critical that governments invest in and strengthen health systems and ensure universal access to health. The time to act is now – we must accelerate action to secure an inclusive, equitable future for all women and girls.”

FIGO President, Professor Kihara Anne-Beatrice, called on FIGO’s member societies to hold their governments to account on the promises made – in 1995 and again in 2025.

“The health and rights of women and girls must be prioritised, protected, promoted and respected. This Political Declaration must be backed up by policy, implementation and strong action – I call on FIGO’s member societies to engage policy makers, community leaders and healthcare organisations and to hold your governments to account on this promise. Together, we must ensure action is accelerated and amplified.”
