Innovations and modern perspectives on childbirth and PPH: a special IJGO supplement by FIGO

FIGO is proud to announce the publication of a dedicated supplement in the International Journal of Gynecology & Obstetrics (IJGO)focusing on childbirth and postpartum haemorrhage (PPH).

The eight-paper supplement highlights best practices for the prevention and management of PPH, while also addressing advocacy, stakeholder mobilisation and the need for a multisectoral approach to reducing preventable deaths.

The papers focus on topics including:

  • surgical tips for complex caesarean sections, including management of an impacted foetal head
  • best practice recommendations vaginal birth after caesarean section (VBAC)
  • improving care during the second stage of labour and assisted vaginal birth
  • Evidence on the global impact of anaemia and PPH.
  • objective measurement of PPH and its importance for care quality
  • results of a global PPH survey in collaboration with the World Association of Trainees in Obstetrics and Gynecology (WATOG).
  • A call to action for a multisectoral approach to PPH prevention and management.
  • framing PPH as a public health issue linked to gender equity

I am incredibly proud of our FIGO Committee on  Childbirth for publishing this dedicated supplement of eight papers in IJGO.

Our papers cover all aspects of post-partum haemorrhage (PPH) prevention and treatment; from the technical approach in a complex caesarean, to the importance of addressing gender inequity.
