Listening to our membership to shape the future of FIGO
Earlier this year, FIGO embarked on a review of our membership offer to ensure that our activities and services meet the needs, interests and expectations of our members.
The first step on this journey was surveying our members to hear about how our work impacts their society, and whether they feel that existing membership benefits and resources are relevant and accessible. We are pleased to share an initial snapshot of the results and the next steps for our membership review.
Participation
We are immensely grateful to our membership for sharing their experiences and expectations with us. A total of 77 member societies across FIGO’s five regions completed our survey, representing 55% of our membership. Their responses are vital and will inform changes to the way we work with and for our members in future, as we advance together to improve the health and rights of women, girls and newborns worldwide.
Key findings
Membership satisfaction
We were delighted to find that most survey respondents reflected positively on their membership experience – 82% of respondents considered that being a FIGO member helps their society achieve their mission and goals.
In addition to this, 84% of respondents felt that FIGO’s current resources and activities meet the needs of their society and their society’s members.
The vast majority of respondents considered FIGO’s membership benefits and opportunities to be important or very important and expressed an interest in making use of them.
Opportunities for improvement
The survey responses provided very useful insight into areas of our membership offer we may look to develop further. Through future planning, we will be identifying actions and activities that:
- ensure societies feel connected to FIGO through regular interaction with FIGO leaders and breaking down geographical areas
- provide tailored support to societies in areas of capacity building and education
- expand knowledge sharing opportunities and online educational resources.
Next steps
Our in-depth analysis of survey responses helped us to identify some emerging trends and patterns that we are keen to explore further.
In order to do this, we will be reaching out to Presidents of member societies to dive deeper into some of the feedback already provided. We will explore areas including peer learning, knowledge sharing, formal education and membership services.
Through this critical membership review, we will build a comprehensive offer that meets the needs of our member societies. Together with our members, we will elevate the status of women and girls’ health, reduce disparities in health care for women and girls, and advance the science and practice of obstetrics and gynaecology through capacity building, advocacy, research implementation and education.
