Webinar: A 21st Century Challenge: Diagnosing and Managing Abnormal Uterine Bleeding (AUB) and Iron Deficiency Anaemia (IDA)

This webinar aims to raise awareness of the often-insidious relationship between the symptom of heavy menstrual bleeding (HMB) and both iron deficiency (ID) and iron deficiency anaemia (IDA). Both are often “normalised” by family and health care providers, much to the detriment of both the patient and society. At least 25% of women with the symptom of HMB have IDA and more have ID alone, which is also a significant contributor to morbidity, and is a major underlying reason for the high incidence of anaemia in pregnancy and the subsequent related sequellae. Consequently, the organisers hope to convey the notion that women with the symptom of HMB will suffer from not one but two disorders–the episodic instances of excessive uterine bleeding and the daily symptoms of ID and its extreme form, IDA. 

In this webinar, the speakers frame the relationships between these two entities, discuss the impact of ID and IDA on a spectrum of performance and quality of life issues, and review diagnostic and management principles. The organisers hope that this session will encourage practitioners worldwide to be proactive in identifying women with the symptom of HMB and investigate and manage them in a fashion that improves their quality of life, and which optimises their ability to contribute productively to their families and society.
