The FIGO Fertility Passport, is a new comprehensive documentation tool designed to transform how patients and healthcare providers navigate fertility investigations and treatments worldwide. Developed by the FIGO Committee on Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility, the passport addresses a critical gap in fertility care where patients often repeat costly investigations and face treatment delays when moving between clinics or healthcare systems.

Addressing fragmented care

Infertility affects millions of people globally, yet care pathways remain fragmented, with patients frequently encountering multiple providers throughout their fertility journey. The new passport provides a standardised format for recording essential information including:

  • medical and surgical history,
  • menstrual and pregnancy history,
  • semen parameters,
  • diagnostic investigations,
  • previous fertility treatments.

Practical benefits for patients and providers

For patients, the passport provides a clear, portable record, reducing emotional and financial strain. For providers, it speeds up diagnosis, improves communication, supports evidence-based decisions and reduces duplication of work, helping to move more smoothly through the fertility pathway.

Global access and patient-centred care

The free, downloadable passport accommodates two patients, ensuring both partners’ information is captured. Healthcare providers worldwide are encouraged to introduce the passport to patients at the beginning of infertility care and update it regularly throughout treatment. The standardised format makes it particularly valuable in low- and middle-income countries where healthcare resources may be limited and treatment pathways fragmented.

By creating a portable medical record that patient's control, the fertility passport empowers couples to take an active role in their care whilst ensuring healthcare providers have access to complete, accurate information for optimal treatment planning.
