At the start of her tenure as FIGO President, Prof Kihara Anne-Beatrice proposed the creation of additional FIGO committees to help deliver our mission to improve women’s health and rights, reduce disparities in healthcare and advance the practice of obstetrics and gynaecology globally.

We are pleased to announce the launch of one division and five new committees. The Division of Well Woman Health Care will work towards preventing illness and promote wellness for girls and women throughout their life course, worldwide. The division will help to coordinate the work of five new committees:

  • The Committee on Adolescent & Youth Health   will focus on addressing the healthcare disparities experienced by young and adolescent females residing in LMICs and marginalised areas.
  • The Committee on Women at Reproductive Age  will produce evidence-based guidance for the anticipation and prevention of pregnancy-related complications, to reduce maternal and neonatal deaths and diseases.
  • The Committee on Women at Menopausal Age  will facilitate the adoption of a more comprehensive and targeted approach to tackle the unique challenges faced by women at menopausal age, especially in low- and middle-income countries and underserved regions.
  • The Committee on Women’s Health and Technology will promote innovation and digitalisation in Women’s Health, with a focus on building capacity in science and technology, while creating resources for healthcare education.
  • The Committee on Breast Health  will raise awareness of breast diseases, disseminate best practice recommendations and advocate for better prevention and treatment of these diseases, particularly in low-resources countries.

The new division and committees will contribute to improving OBGYN health care around the world through the provision of clinical leadership and guidance.
