Biennial Report 2021–2023
This Biennial Report highlights some of FIGO's achievements during our 2021–2023 governance timeframe.
In this report, we explore how FIGO has moved closer to our vision that women of the world achieve the highest possible standards of physical, mental, reproductive and sexual health and wellbeing throughout their lives.
An introduction from our President, 2021–2023
FIGO is the world’s largest alliance of national societies of obstetrics and gynaecology dedicated to the health and wellbeing of women, girls and newborns. We are dedicated to the improvement of women’s health and rights and to the reduction of disparities in health care available to women and newborns, as well as to advancing the science and practice of obstetrics and gynaecology. When FIGO introduced our Strategic Plan in 2021, we set an agenda for work over the following decade of 2021 to 2030. We believe in a women’s health agenda of care across the lifespan from adolescence through maturity.
We recognise that our success lies in the commitment, cooperation and communication between the Board of Trustees, Council, Divisions, Committees, projects and HQ staff. We also collaboration with national member societies, regional federations and international organisations including but not limited to the World Health Organization, Partnership for Maternal Newborn and Child Health, United Nations Fund for Population Activities, Health and Environment Alliance, International Pediatric Association, International Confederation of Midwives, International Urogynecological Association, and International Federation of Fertility Societies.
This Biennial Report highlights some the work we have accomplished across 2021–2023. Much of our work is ongoing through our commitment to continuity and collaboration. You can get a sense of the tremendous work that has been accomplished by our three Divisions, 17 Committees, and the hundreds of OBGYNs and other health care professionals who have dedicated time, energy and a belief in the empowerment of women. FIGO's Strategic Plan sets the foundation for our work on the pillars of capacity building, advocacy, research implementation and education. Please appreciate this summary dedicated to the women that we serve and in recognition of the work that FIGO commits to accomplishing on behalf of us all.
