Biennial Report 2021–2023: education and capacity building

One of FIGO's Strategic Plan Goals is to advance the practice of obstetrics and gynaecology through education, training, research and advocacy, employing the highest ethical and professional standards.

Across 2021–2023, FIGO has delivered a series of education materials, resources, and courses.

Global webinars and masterclasses

In early 2020, FIGO began to develop a series of free webinars, with the aim of bringing together the global community of women's health experts, advocates, early-career and frontline health professionals.

FIGO webinars span diverse and internationally relevant topics, from the changes in women’s health care due to the COVID-19 pandemic, to the impact of the environment upon reproductive health. We have also discussed self-managed abortion, new technologies in OBGYN training and practice, women’s sexual and reproductive health and rights, among many other topics.

FIGO staging of endometrial cancer 2023

In October 2021, the FIGO Committee on Women’s Cancer established the Endometrial Cancer Staging subcommittee to review new and established findings on endometrial cancer treatment, prognosis and survival. The review aimed to revise the existing FIGO Staging System for Endometrial Cancer in order to incorporate essential new published evidence and improve understanding of the complex nature of endometrial cancers.

The initial FIGO Staging System for Endometrial Cancer was published in 2009 and, since then, a wealth of information has emerged about the various histological types, tumour patterns and molecular classification of endometrial cancer.

This 2023 update serves to clarify the diverse biological nature of endometrial carcinomas and their differing prognostic outcomes, define these prognostic groups more clearly and create substages that allow for better-adapted treatment.

The FIGO podcast

We were proud to announce the launch of FIGO’s first podcast series, which aims to disseminate clinical recommendations to obstetricians and gynaecologists to improve women and girls’ health outcomes around the globe. Series one of the FIGO podcast was led by the FIGO Committee on Contraception. It explored adolescent pregnancy as a public health issue, available methods of contraception and their application for adolescents, and the benefits and concerns surrounding adolescent contraceptive use.
