
The International Journal of Gynecology and Obstetrics (IJGO) has published a new open access supplement on the FIGO initiative on the impact of pregnancy on long-term health. The supplement was written with the leadership of the FIGO Committee on the Impact of Pregnancy on Long-term Health and published in January 2023.
In October 2021, the International Journal of Gynecology & Obstetrics (IJGO) published a highly exciting and urgent special issue, titled: A Call for Action in Indigenous and First Nations Women’s Health and Wellbeing.
The winning paper – Diagnostic accuracy of self-collected vaginal samples for HPV DNA detection in women from South India – was written by Santhosh Kuriakose, Sasidharanpillai Sabeena, Damodaran Binesh, Jazeel Abdulmajeed, Nagaraja Ravishankar, Amrutha Ramachandran, Bindu Vijaykumar, and Nurul Ameen and published in the IJGO in May 2020. The award brings with it a stipend of £800, a certificate of recognition and one-year complimentary access to the online version of IJGO.
Details about the Fellowship
The International Fellowship Program offers a one-week intensive experience at an Australian hospital for early-career OBGYN specialists from countries of the Asia-Pacific region.
IJGO’s journal impact factor improved from 2.216 to 3.561 in 2020 – our highest-ever impact factor. This increase has seen the journal rise through the OBGYN journal rankings to 20th place among 83 indexed journals.

We are proud to be in official relations with the World Health Organization (WHO), and to collaborate with them throughout many areas of their work.
FIGO is therefore disappointed to learn that US President Donald Trump has decided to halt funding to the WHO amid the global COVID19 pandemic.

COVID-19 (Coronavirus) is a new pathogen of high contagious abilities.
Although males seem to be more affected than females, as yet very little is known about the effect of COVID-19 on pregnant women and infants.
Based on the only set of available COVID-19 data, being a small series of women from Wuhan, China, there is no evidence that pregnant women are more at risk than the general population and there is no evidence that the virus can be transmitted to the baby during pregnancy.

This month FIGO has spoken with Dr Jaideep Malhotra, Past President of FOGSI and Member of FIGO Committee on Reproductive Medicine, Endocrinology and Infertility.
"It was a dream for me to become a doctor and to serve the women of India.
I feel very blessed because the education system in our country, especially the higher education in the medical colleges, is very affordable and as far as training is concerned we have plenty of opportunity to learn as the patient load in the hospitals is too high for doctors to handle.
