The Fistula Surgery Training initiative is excited to announce the launch of our latest addition to the Resource Hub: the Surgical Workshop Series.
This comprehensive collection aims to provide valuable insights and practical knowledge to fistula surgeons and fistula medical professionals. We believe that this series will serve as a valuable resource for enhancing surgical skills, staying updated on the latest trends, and fostering continuous learning within the fistula community.
Since 2012, the FIGO Fistula Surgery Training Initiative (FSTI) has been building the capacities of local trainee fistula surgeons – ‘FIGO Fellows’ – and multidisciplinary teams to provide treatment for women suffering from obstetric fistula in some of the world’s most underserved communities.
In September 2022, FIGO’s Expert Advisory Group published a new training manual for fistula surgeons. The FIGO Fistula Surgery Training Manual, as well as additional module logbooks, performance-based assessments, and the much awaited flowchart; Assessing Outcomes Following Vesicovaginal Fistula Surgery, can all be found in the manual and can also be downloaded.
The resources below provide a variety of training materials for fistula surgery, which have been recommended, written, compiled and designed by leading fistula surgeons, many of whom are closely involved with the Fistula Surgery Training Initiative as FIGO Trainers.
Welcome to FIGO’s brand new Fistula Resource Hub! The aim of the Hub is to host numerous resources related to FIGO's work concerning obstetric fistula, including a wide range of educational materials for interested fistula surgeons and care teams, the project's quarterly newsletter, information about the International Day to End Obstetric Fistula, and much more.
Obstetric fistula is a neglected public health and human rights issue, and a devastating childbirth injury. It leaves women permanently incontinent, and it is currently estimated that only 1 woman in 50 is able to access corrective treatment.

For this year’s International Volunteer Day on the 5th December, the campaign will thank volunteers worldwide and shed light on the difficulties and needs of volunteers during the pandemic. Together we can highlight the impact of volunteers in their communities during this crisis. We will reach to all corners of the globe with the message: Together We Can Through Volunteering.
